New 2017 Ford Escape

2017 Ford Escape Overview

  • Redesigned for 2017
  • Newly available 245-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine
  • SYNC 3 multimedia system is available
The 2017 Ford Escape is one of the best-selling compact SUVs on the market. It is also the smallest SUV in Ford’s lineup. It competes with the Mazda CX-3, Toyota RAV4, and the Honda CR-V.

Three trims are available: the S, SE, and Titanium.

This year, the Escape has been redesigned with a more chiseled, sleek appearance in mind. The new frontend features geometric headlights, a big hexagonal grille, and a sporty fascia. The SE and Titanium trims have a new optional Sport Appearance Package, which includes 19-inch black painted aluminum wheels, black-bezel headlights, unique chrome/black grille, LED daytime running lamps, black-tinted tail lights, and black roof rails. A power moonroof, a power liftgate, a trailer hitch receiver, heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, and a dual-pipe exhaust system are also optional.

All of the Escape’s engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and front- or 4-wheel drive. The Escape is powered by a standard 168-hp, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Two new engines are also available: a 179-hp, turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder and a 245-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Fuel economy for the 2.5-liter model is an EPA-estimated 21/28 mpg city/highway. For the turbocharged 1.5-liter model, it improves to a 23/30 mpg rating (22/28 mpg with 4WD). It decreases to a 22/29 mpg rating for the turbocharged 2.0-liter model (20/27 mpg with 4WD).

Inside, the Escape has a sporty, black cloth interior with blue-lit instrument clusters and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center console features a standard audio system that has CD/MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and voice recognition communication. It can be upgraded to the Sync 3 multimedia system, which includes an 8-inch touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Android compatibility. By utilizing the SYNC Connect smartphone app, the driver can locate their vehicle, unlock doors, start the engine, and schedule future engine starts. Standard features include remote keyless entry, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and power windows/locks. Full leather upholstery, heated/power front seats, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, a memory seat, and an automatic dimming rearview mirror are available as well.

Standard safety features include front airbags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, a tire-pressure monitor, and a backup camera. Blind spot monitoring, active park assist, and lane keep assist are also available.
