New 2017 Ford Taurus

2017 Ford Taurus Overview

  • Full-size sedan with three engine options
  • High-performance SHO trim available
  • Optional SYNC3 multimedia system
The 2017 Ford Taurus is a full-size sedan that seats 5 passengers. It competes with the Chevrolet Impala, Hyundia Azera, and Toyota Avalon. This year, it remains largely unchanged.

Four trims are available: the SE, SEL, Limited, and SHO.

The Taurus follows rather conventional sedan styling. Overall, it appears to have a stocky-build, but it does have a slightly sporty fascia and headlights. The grille bears a closer resemblance to the Ford Escape’s grille rather than its smaller sibling – the Ford Fusion. The blockish rear-end slopes at an angle. The SHO trim comes with its own unique exterior treatment that includes a mesh grille, a rear spoiler, HID headlights, 20-inch wheels, and sport-tuned suspension. The available Performance Package includes bigger brakes, shocks, springs, summer tires, a Track mode, and additional performance tuning. Standard features include power side mirrors and a dual-pipe exhaust system. Other available features include heated side mirrors, a power moonroof, and a rear spoiler.

Under the hood, the Ford Taurus is powered by a standard 288-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional. A more fuel-efficient 240-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is also available. Powering the SHO trim is a 365-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that delivers 350 pounds-feet of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic and AWD. Fuel economy for the V-6/FWD models is EPA-estimated 18/27 mpg city/highway (17/24 mpg with AWD). The rating decreased to 16/24 mpg for the twin-turbo V-6 model. However, it raises to a 20/29 mpg rating for the turbo 4-cylinder model.

Inside, the Taurus has a standard cloth interior with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features a standard audio system that includes a 4.2-inch touchscreen, CD/MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and a USB port. It can be upgraded to the newly available SYNC 3 multimedia system, which includes a larger touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, Siri Eyes Free mode, and a Sony premium audio system. Standard safety features include power front seats, remote keyless entry, and power windows/locks. Available features include leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated/cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a memory seat, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, an automatic dimming rearview mirror, and push-button start.

The Taurus earned a full 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available features include adaptive cruise control, a blindspot monitoring system, pre-collision warning system, lane departure warning, brake assist, and park assist.
